Culture shock

This section is dedicated to abolishing the pre-conceived notions held in regards to Haitian, culture people, and the country in general. I have had the privilege to travel extensively and to learn from a vast spectrum of people and experiences. I go into every situation with no expectations, however Haiti was an exception. I expected a harsh and hostile environment with unfriendly people and abject hopeless poverty….. I could not have been any further off base with the exception of the poverty issue. This section is dedicated to ramblings about daily experiences that speak to the incredible nature of this country and its people.

One Response to “Culture shock”

  1. I, too, had preconceived notions about Haiti before this disaster. With the absolute devastation and death that hit this country, I would have expected a story of violence, looting and exposure of the raw underbelly of the human character. Instead, we all found a gentleness and quiet resolve to move forward amidst the shock and tears. Not only am I now more enlightened about this beautiful people, but I am on personal notice to not get stuck in possible misconceptions; to be more open; and yes, to be more proactive. Thanks Jesse for helping me with this.
